What are the Odds? Format’s Role in Betting Risk Decisions

The Behavioral Insights Team (“BIT”), for the benefit of NAGRA members, will present its findings from a recent audit of sports betting operators' mobile apps in Ohio, examining design features that could influence patrons' betting behavior, particularly in the problem gambling area. This behavioral audit identified practices around parlay betting and odds displays, leading to a randomized controlled trial examining whether betting odds format influences risk-taking. BIT will present its results which can help develop policy and evidence-based interventions to promote safer betting behaviors, particularly given the rapid growth of online sports betting in the US.
